Upon request, 1stVoice will make recommendations for training. The amount of consulting hours required will vary from person to person, depending on many factors -- previous familiarity and comfort with computers in general, aptitude for picking up new programs, clarity of speech, accent, and the tasks to be performed by voice (just dictation vs. complete hands-free control of the computer, or programming, scripting, or macro control).
Training on voice recognition software (or any software for that matter) can smooth the initial learning curve. People who place a high value on their time and productivity should strongly consider one-on-one training. Voice recognition software is unique in that it's accuracy relies to a great extent on proper user habits -- microphone position, cadence of speech, and more. Working with an experienced trainer can help establish good voice user habits early, leading to less frustration and greater productivity.
We will make a recommendation for a reasonable amount of training hours, based upon your needs and budget, rather than trying to talk you into more hours than you need just to keep our accountant happy. Our training services have consistently provided superior results at lower cost when compared with our competition.
1st Voice provides training throughout the San Francisco Bay area. For training outside of our area, purchase your voice recognition software from us, and we will refer you to a Dragon Systems certified trainer in your area.
Why training?
Dragon NaturallySpeaking is an amazing product, when used properly. With proper speech cadence and proper microphone position, on the right hardware, you will be absolutely astounded by how well this product performs, even right after the initial 5 minute training period.
But... this is a novel product, with a good number of idiosyncrasies. Many people have tried to master voice recognition software, and given up after a short while. Very simple issues like improper microphone position can lead to complete failure.
A recent industry survey showed that a surprisingly small percentage of people who purchased voice recognition software were successful users when they tried to figure it out on their own.
Make no mistake about it, Dragon NaturallySpeaking is well designed, and shockingly accurate when used properly. But the novelty and complexity inherent in this product have defeated many people.
We strongly recommend budgeting for some amount of training, to increase your odds of success. Clients trained by 1stVoice are successful a much greater percentage of the time than others. We have never had anyone say that it was not money well spent!
