Who is a good candidate for voice recognition software?
To be successful with this novel software, you should most importantly be motivated to use it! Using a new software program is like learning a new language. It takes practice, dedication, and regular use to become proficient. This is not a program that works perfectly without any effort from you -- specific verbal commands must be learned in order to control the computer, and to format, edit, and correct text created. The command structure is well developed, and very powerful and flexible, as well as being relatively simple.
In general, the more comfortable you are with computers, and the more experience you have with them, the more likely it is that Dragon NaturallySpeaking will work well for you. Computer programmers generally do very well, picking up the program very quickly.
Accents are not a problem, as long as your speech is clear, and follows standard English grammar rules. If as a non-native speaker, and you drop articles from your speech, Dragon will not fill in the gaps for you.
Slurred speech experienced with certain disabilities may present a problem. Call, and in the course of a phone conversation we can generally get a sense of how likely you are to succeed.
Cognitive impairments can be a problem, in that the most successful users are able to compose their dictation and speak it clearly, while simultaneously using editing and formatting commands. I am interested in purchasing your one of your products that turn speach into text. I am disabled to where a product that would tour speach to text would be of great us to me. I am going through Bureo of Vocational Rehabilition. I was told that the software will take some time to install/setup as much as 60 hrs is this true? If not I would like to purchase your software. I am a college student at State University in the pre-occupational therapy program. I am in the junior level and have to do allot of writing. I usually tape my lectures and then type them out this takes some time, more than I usually have. I would appericate any assistance you can provide.

I receive Your program in the mail today. I have installed it, and have gone through the testing on the PC. I am dictating this letter and it seems to be going okay so far. It sure is a lot faster than I can type. I will have to read up on the new program so I can become better adjusted. Having gone through the test that the computer put me through the program seems to be working pretty good so far. Sure I am getting a small amount of errors, but I have only been working on this for about 2 1/2 hours. So I guess this program really doesn't take 60 hours, like someone told me Ha Ha. If these are the results I can achieve an only a few hours of work I, I should be doing great by next week.
I can't begin to tell you how happy this makes me. It is much easier, and the less frustrating to finely be able to put my words onto paper. I have so many thoughts and ideas that need to be a written down. Your program the finely gives me the ability to do so.

I spoke with your representative when I ordered this upgrade (from NaturallySpeaking Personal 1.0 to Deluxe 2.0) about the vexing problem with proofing documents with the first version. Your rep suggested that the only solution was another person to proof the documents. Of course, if I had another person to do this, I would probably not need Dragon NaturallySpeaking. Further as I am a competent typist I would save no time. So I have not been too happy with the program at least for final documents. I can tolerate the creative antonyms, many of which are quite amusing, when I take notes, but I could not solve the problem with final documents. I was very discouraged. Further I bought the upgrade more on faith -- especially when I could buy the IBM program for less than the upgrade -- than enthusiasm.
The 2.02 upgrade has at least two significant advantages so far (I have yet to try all of the new features).
The first advantage is that it somehow seems to read my voice with significantly more accuracy than before.
The second advantage has solved the proofing problem! The damn program reads my text back! My ear is much more accurate in catching odd words than is my eye. Further to hear the text read back is a relief as I am fatiqued after a dictation session and disinclined to read in a proofing mode. This is truly a whiz bang program that has overcome its novelty and become a working tool for me. Thanks for your help, interest and perseverance.
